Cards rout Canes in Russell Athletic Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. - Despite an early safety, the University of Louisville dominated the Miami Hurricanes to claim the Russell Athletic Bowl trophy on Saturday evening.

The Miami Hurricanes scored first by sacking Teddy Bridgewater in the end zone for a safety on the Cardinals first possession of the game, but it was all Louisville after that.

The crowd of 51,098 was treated to an MVP performance by Louisville's elite quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

The junior was nearly perfect against Miami, a program that he was once committed to. The Miami Northwestern product completed over 77 percent of his attempts for more than 440 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also ran for another score.

The three touchdown passes gave Bridgewater 31 on the season and established a new single season U of L record, passing Brian Brohm.

The Cardinals defense was stout all night, holding Miami under 200 yards. Led by All-American defensive end Marcus Smith, the Cardinals sacked Miami's Stephen Morris four times and registered 8 tackles for a loss.
