Poona Ford says bowl game was 'just wild'

ORLANDO, Fla. - Several University of Louisville football recruits attended the Russell Athletic Bowl game on Saturday night to watch the Cardinals whip Miami 36-9. Cardinal Authority chatted with a couple of those recruits and has this report on what they saw at the game.

Three University of Louisville football recruits made plans several weeks ago to attend the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Reggie Bonnafon, Desean Blair and George Rushing worked it out so they could attend the game on Saturday night in the Florida Citrus Bowl, a game the Cardinals spanked Miami 36-9.

But there was another commitment also in the stands, Hilton Head Island, S.C., defensive tackle Poona Ford was a surprise visitor to the game and was dressed in a U of L t-shirt.

Ford told Cardinal Authority that he "had to see" the Cards in the bowl game.

"It was just wild," Ford said. "I knew they had a great defense, it was wild sitting there watching them do that (to Miami)."

Ford, who is heading this week to the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl in Carson, Calif., said he "can't wait" for his visit next month to U of L. He said South Carolina and Clemson were still recruiting him hard.

But Ford said, "right now it's all Louisville for me." He added the win over Miami was "very, very impressive" for the Cardinals.

Bonnafon, the four-star quarterback from Trinity High School, said it was "amazing to watch how we played in all phases of the game" and said he enjoyed his time with Rushing and Blair at the bowl game.

"Offensively, we did everything you could possibly do and watching Teddy (Bridgewater) is just amazing in itself," Bonnafon said. "It was very motivating watching the team celebrate during and after the game and it makes me that much more excited to be a Cardinal."

Blair, a wide receiver from Sandalwood, Fla., said he "knew we were gonna win before I even got there," to the stadium.

"I could feel the energy and I was so proud of my future program," Blair said. "Watching the players and coaches was truly amazing."
