Henderson awarded scholarship by U of L

One of the stars of last year's Final Four - Tim Henderson - is no longer a walk-on at the University of Louisville. Henderson was awarded a scholarship by U of L coach Rick Pitino.

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino had an open scholarship for the spring semester after not landing a mid-year player the staff had been recruiting.

So, Pitino rewarded Tim Henderson.

Henderson, a senior walk-on from Christian Academy, has been placed on scholarship for his final semester by Pitino.

Pitino informed Henderson of the change in front of his teammates, who went crazy in congratulations for the likeable guard.

"I was surprised," Henderson said. "But if you stay positive through the ups and the downs, then good things happen."

Henderson has played in 12 games this season for the Cardinals. He hit two three-pointers within 42 seconds last season in the Final Four win over Wichita State, helping erase a 12-point deficit in the game.

"Tim has been a joy to coach, plays his butt off everyday, knew how to play defense coming in," Pitino said. "His high school coach did an excellent job preparing him".
