U of L women dust Cincy; Slaughter returns

University of Louisville senior Antonita Slaughter returned for the women's team on Saturday after sitting out for a month following her collapse on the bench. She had five points, while Shoni Schimmel led the way with 21 as the Cardinals dusted Cincinnati 64-45.

Shoni Schimmel scored 21 points to lead the way but the star of the University of Louisville women's team's 64-45 win over Cincinnati was senior guard Antonita Slaughter.

Slaughter was back in uniform and played 16 minutes just one month and a day after collapsing on the court. She had a blood clot in her lung and it was feared her career was over.

But earlier this week she found out she had a clean bill of health and was allowed to play again. Slaughter had five points, three rebounds and one steal in 16 minutes.

"It was great to be back out there," she said with a smile on her face.

The Cardinals moved to 15-1 on the season and 3-0 in AAC play with the romp, despite starting off 3 of 17 from the field.

Schimmel hit 5 of 11 three-pointers, while Emmonnie Henderson had nine points and six rebounds and Sara Hammond had eight points and six rebounds for the Cardinals.

Jude Schimmel didn't play because of an ankle injury, while Tia Gibbs sat out with back spasms and Shawnta Dyer had soreness in her knee.
