Brown and Smith headed to Shrine Game

University of Louisville seniors Preston Brown and Hakeem Smith are both participating this weekend in the East-West Shrine Game to be played in St. Petersburg, Fla. The two were key figures on U of L's defense that helped the Cardinals go 12-1 this season.

University of Louisville senior linebacker Preston Brown and safety Hakeem Smith have at least one more game on the same team before their professional careers.

Brown and Smith have been picked to participate on the East team in the East-West Shrine Bowl on Saturday in St. Petersburg, Fla., featuring top seniors from across the country.

Brown, a senior from Cincinnati, led the Cardinals with 98 tackles as a senior. He had 12.5 tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks, while finishing his career with 301 tackles.

Smith set a new school record with 51 straight starts to end his career, finishing his senior season with 45 tackles and three interceptions. He had 290 tackles for his career and four interceptions.

The game will be played at 4 p.m. at Tropicana Field, with play being broadcast live on the NFL Network.

U of L defensive end Marcus Smith will participate in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 25 in Mobile, Ala.
