Culver 'really excited' about U of L trip

Tallahassee, Fla., Godby defensive back De'Eric Culver is headed to the University of Louisville on Friday. Culver has been committed to U of L since last spring and will be meeting with the new coaching staff for the first time.

De'Eric Culver has been hearing from other schools since Charlie Strong left the University of Louisville for Texas.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Culver has remained committed and this weekend will get a chance to check out the Cardinals.

Culver will make his official visit after meeting with running backs coach Kolby Smith on Thursday. He's expected to get to town on Friday afternoon and will be here through Sunday.

"I am coming in with an open mind and assuming that everything is going to work out good," Culver said. "I've been talking to the new coaches and I'm looking forward to the trip."

Culver said he will visit California on Jan. 24 and is also hearing from Kansas State, Arkansas and Nebraska.

But Culver did say, "I am still committed to Louisville. I just have to make sure."

Culver said his early talks with the new staff have been "very positive" and "they seem like good guys. They said they like what I can bring to the team being a defensive back. I'm very fortunate they still want me."
