The University of Louisville men's basketball team scored a major road win on Saturday night, taking out Connecticut 76-64 before a packed house in Storrs, Conn.
Russ Smith hit 12 of 15 free throws and led the Cardinals with 23 points, while Montrezl Harrell had his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots for the Cardinals.
U of L opened a 16-point lead in the second half after UConn coach Kevin Ollie was ejected. The Huskies fought back and cut it to seven but Smith hit 7 of 8 free throws down the stretch and Luke Hancock ended it with a dunk.
Hancock added 13 points, while freshman Terry Rozier had five points, seven rebounds and two assists. Wayne Blackshear was just 4 of 10 from the field but had nine points.
The win gives the Cardinals a 16-3 record on the season and a 5-1 mark in the American Athletic Conference.
U of L was 26 of 57 from the field and won the rebounding battle 42-30.The Cardinals next game is Wednesday night at South Florida.
