Cards back in the mix for Florida DT

A former University of Louisville commitment, Lakeland, Fla., defensive tackle Chris Nelson said the Cardinals are back in the mix. He will make U of L his final visit on Jan. 31. Cardinal Authority spoke with Nelson about his recruitment.

The new coaching staff at the University of Louisville now has a chance to get another former commitment back in the fold.

Lakeland, Fla., Victory Christian defensive tackle Chris Nelson, who was committed when Charlie Strong was the coach at U of L, told Cardinal Authority that the Cardinals are "back in the mix" for his services.

"I like them a lot," Nelson said of the new staff at U of L, noting head coach Bobby Petrino and defensive coordinator Todd Grantham visited his school and his home on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-3, 275-pound Nelson visited South Florida last weekend and is headed to Texas this weekend. He will visit U of L next week before signing on Feb. 5, the football signing day.

Nelson said Notre Dame is also in the mix and Central Florida has still be in contact.

But he while many felt U of L was out of the mix that was the farthest thing from the truth because he felt like the new staff was "great."

"(Petrino) is a good guy," Nelson said.

Nelson told USFNation.com last week that: "It's a tight schedule and I have to think hard, but I'm going to take football out the way to see if the people fit me like a family as well."
