Shaq Jones finds the 'right place for me'

Merritt Island, Fla., defensive back Shaq Jones, who committed to the University of Louisville earlier this week, made his visit to campus this weekend. Jones is solid on his commitment and Cardinal Authority has the latest on his recruitment.

Merritt Island, Fla., defensive back Shaq Jones became the first commitment for the new football staff at the University of Louisville earlier this week.

The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Jones then made his first visit to campus over the weekend for his official visit and said he loved it.

"It's just great," Jones said after finishing up his visit. "I liked just everything about it. It's the right place for me."

Jones, who had previously been committed to South Alabama, said assistant coach Terrell Buckley and the rest of the staff were a big reason he felt so comfortable at U of L.

"They act like themselves around me," Jones said. "They are not just telling me things because I want to hear them."

Jones said he is "solid" on his commitment and will sign with U of L on Feb. 5.

Jones had two interceptions as a senior and six for his career at Merritt Island Senior. He helped his team to an 11-1 record before losing in the quarterfinals of the Class 5-A state playoffs in the Sunshine State.

Jones runs a 4.45 40-yard dash, has a 37-inhc vertical and squats 315 pounds.
