But when Charlie Strong left U of L for Texas, Rushing started to look elsewhere and drew a lot of interest. But Louisville has stayed in the mix.
The Cardinals have been to see Rushing several times and this weekend made his official visit to check out the Cardinals. He said the relationship-building process with the new staff is "going great."
Rushing expects to see U of L coaches at his school again on Monday but will take a mid-week visit to TCU and visit Missouri next weekend. He has already tripped to Wisconsin last weekend.
"It's going to be very difficult," Rushing said, noting he will make his decision on Feb. 3, two days before national signing day. "Real hard."
The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Rushing said LSU and Wake Forest had also been in contact but he's not expecting to take a fifth visit.
Rushing said new U of L coach Bobby Petrino is "a very cool guy," while new wide receiver coach Lamar Thomas "is fun to get to know, he's a cool dude."
"It was a very good visit," Rushing said. "I just wanted to continue to get to know the staff and see how they want to use me. They were cool and they told me some very good points, I learned a lot this weekend."
"It's going to be a difficult decision. It's not just a four-year decision, it's a decision that's going to affect my life."
