Burdi named first-team All-American

University of Louisville junior pitcher Nick Burdi has been named a first-team All-American by Baseball America. Burdi is one of the top relief pitchers in the country and is expected to be a top MLB Draft pick next June.

University of Louisville junior Nick Burdi has been named a first-team All-American relief pitcher by Baseball America.

Burdi, who is considered one of the top pitchers in the country, has now been recognized by four outlets as a preseason All-American.

The hard-throwing closer has also been honored by Perfect Game, Collegiate Baseball newspaper and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. He was also tabbed as one of the top 50 juniors in the country by Baseball America. He was tabbed as No. 12.

Burdi helped the Cardinals to the College World Series last season. He had 16 saves with a 0.76 ERA and 62 strikeouts in 29 relief appearances and 35.2 innings pitched.

U of L seniors Cole Sturgeon (No. 12) and Jeff Gardner (No. 15) were tabbed as top 50 seniors by Baseball America, while Kyle Funkhouser (No. 6) is one of the top sophomores.

U of L opens the season on Feb. 14 in Charleston, S.C., at a three-day tournament.
