The University of Louisville softball team has already played nine games this season, now the Cardinals get to play at home.
U of L (4-5) will open the home portion of its schedule on Friday afternoon in the first of five home games this weekend for the Cardinals in the Cardinal Classic.
The Cardinals will play Northern Kentucky at 3 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky at 5:30 before playing IUPUI and Central Michigan tomorrow and finishing with Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
"They seem to be very fired up and ready to go this weekend," U of L coach Sandy Pearsall said. "We haven't started well in some game but I think getting back home, a place where we play well will get us on track.
"They really like to play in front of the home crowd."
U of L has been outscored 10-4 in the first inning of games this season. The Cardinals lost to Notre Dame and North Carolina last weekend.
Junior centerfielder Kelsi Jones transferred to Louisville from Missouri and has had an immediate impact this season, leading the team with a .393 average. Fellow transfer Brittany Duncan is second on the team at .364.
Senior pitcher Caralisa Connell (2-3) has a 3.50 ERA.
"We have to get more consistent pitching," Pearsall said. "We haven't had a solid pitching performance to start out yet."
