Iowa QB commit checking out Cardinals

Lisle, Ill., quarterback Jack Beneventi verbally committed to Iowa in December. Beneventi said he's still committed to the Hawkeyes but after an offer from Louisville on Tuesday he will check out the Cardinals. Cardinal Authority has the latest.

Lisle, Ill., Benet Academy junior quarterback Jack Beneventi pick up a scholarship off from the University of Louisville last spring.

The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Beneventi then came to U of L's Passing Camp in June and the Cardinals seemed high on his list.

But then head coach Charlie Strong accepted a fall commitment from Ross Trail - another 2015 quarterback prospect - and in December Beneventi committed to play at Iowa.

Now, things have changed a bit.

Beneventi said he's still committed to Iowa at this point but on Tuesday he picked up an offer from the new staff at U of L and said he's intrigued to take a closer look at the Cardinals.

"I visited Louisville when coach Strong was there and I loved it," Beneventi said. "I want to go back and see it again."

Beneventi said he's also heard from Pittsburgh and is expecting to camp at Texas this summer. He's a four-star on Scout.com and ranks as the No. 19 quarterback in the '15 class.

But he said U of L is a school he also wants to see and will take a close look at.

"I want to visit again to meet the new staff and my family and I love Louisville," he said. "We would stay there when I was you get on our way to my grandparents house in Atlanta so it's special to have this opportunity."

As a sophomore, Beneventi passed for 2,388 yards and 20 TDs while leading Benet to 11 wins. Last season, Benet Academy finished 6-4 with Beneventi completing 134 of 246 for 1,482 yards and seven touchdowns.
