U of L football recruiting: Notebook

Cardinal Authority presents a University of Louisville football recruiting notebook, which includes notes on several recently offered prospects from the Class of 2015.

CARDS THE SECOND TO OFFER Georgia DE

McDonough, Ga., Eagle's Landing Christian defensive end Nick Dawson is getting a ton of attention from many major colleges.

But right now the 6-foot-2, 215-pound Dawson has just two scholarship offers - Cincinnati and Louisville. The Cardinals offered earlier this week, while the Bearcats offered last fall.

Dawson is a three-star prospect, according to Scout.com, and last fall attended games at both Alabama and Auburn.

He's also getting interest from Mississippi State, Miami, Georgia, Mississippi, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State and South Carolina. Dawson said he's being recruited by U of L defensive coordinator Todd Grantham, a coach he was familiar with from his days at Georgia.

Dawson said he expects to visit U of L and Cincinnati sometime this spring or summer.

NATIONS TOP SAFETY LANDS OFFER FROM CARDS

Encino, Calif., Crespi Carmelite safety Marvell Tell now has U of L among more than two dozen scholarship offers.

The No. 1 safety in the country, according to Scout, the 6-2, 180-pound Tell is considered one of the top 50 prospects nationally.

Tell holds offers USC, UCLA, California, Arizona State, Washington State, Utah, Washington, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Miami and many others others. He's adding them at a fast pace.

The super athletic Tell posted 41 tackles - 23 solo tackles - with two interceptions, two pass breakups and a QB hurry as a junior. He also had 15 receptions for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

CARDS IN THE MIX FOR ATLANTA LINEMAN

Atlanta Lakeside offensive lineman Mike Horton said he hadn't heard a lot from the new staff at Louisville before recently.

And then on Wednesday, Horton landed an offer from the Cardinals.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Horton added offers from U of L and Georgia State on Wednesday to an already impressive list that includes Florida, Georgia Tech, Duke, Kentucky, Charlotte, Mississippi, Mississippi State and others.

Horton said he does not have any favorites at this time and he is ranked as a three-star and the No. 23 offensive guard nationally.

COLBERT 'EXCITED' ABOUT U OF L OFFER

Griffin, Ga., High linebacker Jordan Colbert recently picked up offers from several schools, including U of L, Oklahoma State and Alabama.

The 6-3, 200-pound Colbert is a four-star prospect and the No. 18 outside linebacker in the country, according to Scout.

Colbert said he's enjoying the recruiting process and said he was "very excited" about the offer from the Cardinals' new staff.

He also had offers from Auburn, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Clemson and North Carolina.

ANOTHER GEORGIA STAR OFFERED

Suwanee, Ga., North Gwinnett defensive end Anree Saint Amour now lists Louisville among the schools extending him an offer.

The 6-3, 235-pound Saint Amour said that he currently also holds offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Missouri, Northwestern, and Tennessee. He said that Clemson is showing interest, along with several others.
