Cards pass the Spring Game test

The Bobby Petrino-era began at the University of Louisville last night and it was a rousing opening act. Will Gardner threw for 542 yards and four wide receivers had 100-plus yards as the Red team beat the White team 56-13 before 27,500 fans at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Using a wide-array of playmakers, Petrino's offense stood out in a big-way on Friday as the Red team (#1s) beat the White (#2s) 56-13 before 27,500 fans at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Will Gardner completed 32 of 37 passes for 542 yards and four touchdowns and four wide receivers had 100-plus yards.

"That was fun," Petrino said. "I feel like our guys have come a long way this spring."

DeVante Parker had 10 catches for 109 yards, while Gerald Christian added eight catches for 126 yards and two touchdowns. Eli Rogers had six catches for 109 yards and one TD, while James Quick caught five passes for 152 yards and one TD.

Quick's TD catch was a 62-yard strike on the third play of the game.

Michael Dyer ran 10 times for 99 yards and two TDs on the Red team and then in the second half had four carries for 51 yards and one TD with the White team.
