Pitino: "The Big East, Southern Style"

One day after the ACC Conference announced the basketball schedule for next season, University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino commented on the Cardinals' schedule. Cardinal Authority was on hand and has Pitino's reaction.

The Atlantic Coast Conference announced the basketball foes for conference teams over the next two seasons on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, University of Louisville coach Rick Pitino spoke in glowing terms about the schedule and the Cardinals' new league.

"It's really back in the Big East, Southern Style," Pitino said of the league.

Pitino suggested eight or nine teams could make the NCAA Tournament field and that his team would once again have one of the nations top schedules, including non-conference games against Kentucky, Indiana, Minnesota, Western Kentucky and another Big Ten foe.

The Cardinals are expected to be ranked in the top 10 in the preseason polls.

"It's about as exciting as it gets," he said.

The ACC schedule includes 18 league games per season, including four teams twice a year. The Cardinals will play North Carolina, Miami, Pittsburgh and Virgina. In the 2015-16 season, U of L will play Pittsburgh, Virginia, Duke and Georgia Tech in the home-and-homes.

Also next season, the Cardinals will host Duke, Clemson, North Carolina State, Virginia Tech and Notre Dame. The road games will be Florida State, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Boston College and Syracuse.

"We spent some incredible years in the Big East," Pitino said. "With that competition, we had one of the toughest schedules in the nation. We're back at it. Back at it where you are going to see eight and nine teams in the tournament. Back at it, the likes of which we have not seen here at Louisville with the exception of the Big East."
