Cards win 7th straight

Cole Sturgeon and Jeff Gardner power No. 8 Louisville past Ohio State 7-3 at Jim Patterson Stadium.

No. 8 Louisville (34-11) won it's seventh consecutive contest, including a sweep of a 6 game home stand, on Wednesday evening, defeating visiting Ohio State 7-3.

Seniors Cole Sturgeon and Jeff Gardner led an offense that pounded out 13 hits. Sturgeon led the way with four hits, while Gardner went 2 for 4 at the plate.

Gardner connected for his team-high fifth home run in the first inning, driving in two to give the hosts a quick 2 run lead. Gardner plated his 16th RBI of the season with a double in the fifth to give U of L a comfortable 6-0 advantage.

Freshman Drew Harrington started on the mound and picked up the win after tossing four scoreless innings and striking out five.

Louisville has now won 8 straight against Ohio State and leads the overall series 10-3.

Up next for Louisville is an important conference series at South Florida. At 11-4 in AAC play, the Cardinals enter the weekend in second place, one game back of Central Florida (12-3).
