U of L football: Recruiting notebook

Cardinal Authority has a notebook full of items, catching up on some offers and other things surrounding the Louisville football program.

A 3,000-YARD RUSHER LANDS OFFER

Garner, N.C., High School running back Nyheim Hines ran for more than 3,000 yards as a junior and is getting all sorts of college attention.

One of the latest additions to his scholarship offer sheet is the University of Louisville. The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Hines was extended an offer this week by the U of L staff.

Hines also has offers from Florida, North Carolina, Duke, Clemson, Virginia, Georgia and a bunch of other schools.

A four-star prospect and the No. 23 running back in the country, Hines had 95 carries for 750 yards and 14 touchdowns and caught 21 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore. As a junior, Hines ran for 3,140 yards rushing and 49 TDs and 600 yards receiving and nine TDs.

CARDS OFFER FORMER UK COMMIT

Lake Wales, Fla., safety Marcus Walker, who had previously been committed to Kentucky, landed an offer from the Cardinals.

The 6-foot, 175-pound Walker now has more than 20 scholarship offers, including Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, Duke, Indiana, Mississippi and Mississippi State.

Walker, a three-star prospect, committed to Kentucky in January but re-opened the process in April.

THOMAS TRYING TO LAND Miami WR

U of L wide receiver coach Lamar Thomas is a legend in South Florida and he's trying to pull a top wide receiver from that area.

Miami Coral Gables Senior High School wide receiver Shaquery WIlson has an offer and said U of L and West Virginia are his leaders.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Wilson has more than a dozen offers, including also from Purdue, Syracuse, Temple and Western Kentucky. Miami and Alabama are also showing interest.

As a junior, Wilson finished with 25 catches for 500 yards and six touchdowns.

FLORIDA ATHLETE LANDS U OF L OFFER

Loxahatchee, Fla., Seminole Ridge defensive back Jalen Young picked up a U of L offer.

The 5-foot-10, 172-pound Young has offers from Miami, South Florida, Minnesota, Marshall, Boston College and Florida International.

As a junior, Young recorded 96 tackles, four sacks and five pass breakups. He also ran 29 times, running for 188 yards and three TDs.

NORTH CAROLINA DE NOW UP TO A DOZEN

Three-star North Carolina defensive end Kengera Daniel picked up scholarship offer from Louisville just days after landing offers from Kentucky and Tennessee.

The 6-foot-5, 235-pound Daniel is from Millbrook, N.C., High School and now holds 12 major offers, including from Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson and Florida State.

Daniel had 85 tackles, 42 tackles for loss, 13 sacks and one interception as a junior.

While his plans are still up in the air, Daniel said he could make a trip to U of L and see UK at the same time this summer.

2016 LINEBACKER PICKS UP OFFERS

It's been a busy few days for Newman, Ga., Newnan High School 2016 linebacker Emanual Bridges. He's added a few offers, including one on Friday morning from the Louisville staff.

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Bridges also added offers from Cincinnati and Clemson. He previously had offers from Appalachian State, Kentucky, Michigan State and Ole Miss.

Bridges is one of about 25 prospects in the Class of 2016 offered by U of L.

CARDS OFFER ANOTHER FROM TENNESSEE

U of L has been pretty busy in Tennessee in recent days, offering several prospects.

The latest offer came to Lebanon, Tenn., Friendship Christian offensive tackle Andrew Wood. The 6-foot-5, 300-pound Wood also has offers from Duke, Vanderbilt, California, Arkansas State, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga.

Wood is a three-star prospect and ranks as the No. 53 offensive guard in the country, according to Scout.com.
