U of L football: Recruiting notebook

Cardinal Authority takes a look at a bunch of prospects who were recently offered by the University of Louisville football program.

INDIANAPOLIS THREE-STAR SAFETY GETS THE CALL

Indianapolis Warren Central three-star safety Mykelti Williams landed an offer this weekend from the University of Louisville.

The 6-foot, 195-pound Williams is considered the No. 39 safety in the country in the '15 class by Scout.com.

Williams has been on visits to Mississippi, Indiana, Purdue and Michigan State and also has offers from Nebraska, Minnesota, Cincinnati and Wisconsin.

Williams said he might camp at U of L this summer.

*U of L also extended an offer to another Indianapolis star – Ben Davis four-star linebacker Asmar Bilal. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Bilal is ranked as the No. 14 outside linebacker in the country with offers from Notre Dame, Illinois, Michigan, Duke, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Oregon, Missouri and others.

U OF L OFFER NEW JERSEY TEAMMATES

Louisville coaches have been active in New Jersey teammates Sam Madden and Manny Bowen of Barnegat, N.J., High School.

The 6-foot-7, 325-pound Madden has over 25 offers on the board, including Wisconsin, Miami, Fla., Boston College, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Mississippi, Nebraska, Iowa, Rutgers, Virginia and others.

Madden is ranked as the No. 63 offensive tackle in the Class of 2015, according to Scout.com and is a three-star prospect.

Bowen is a 6-foot-3, 206-pound outside linebacker and is a four-star with also more than two dozen offers. His offers include Alabama, Michigan State, Penn State, Miami, Fla., Nebraska and others.

As a junior, Bowen made 68 tackles and had 2.5 sacks along with four interceptions. He also had 25 catches for 479 yards and seven TDs on offense.

North Carolina RB OFFERED BY CARDS

Ranked as the No. 49 running back in the country, Greensboro, N.C., Southern Guilford star Reggie Gallaspy has around 15 scholarship offers.

Gallaspy has the offers from Duke, North Carolina, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Virginia, Syracuse, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt among others.

And his latest came from Louisville.

The 6-foot, 215-pound Gallaspy ran for 1,757 yards and 20 touchdowns as a sophomore and then ran for 1,704 yards as a junior.

Gallaspy is a three-star prospect.

LOUISVILLE LATEST OFFER FOR Florida LBS

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker Chris Hart has double digit offers, including the latest from the Louisville staff.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Hart also has offers from Illinois, Kentucky, Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Florida Atlantic, Pittsburgh and South Florida among others.

Hart is a three-star prospect.

Another Florida linebacker offered by the Cardinals' staff is Tevon Coney, who already has more than two dozen other offers.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Coney is from Palm Beach Gardens High School and ranks as the No. 20 middle linebacker in the country.

Coney also has offers from the likes of Auburn, Florida, Clemson, Miami, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Coney had 172 tackles and six forced fumbles as a junior.

*The Cardinals also offered one of Hart's teammates at St. Thomas Aquinas – cornerback Damon Arnette. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Arnette is a three-star prospect and also has offers from Florida State, Kentucky, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Cincinnati and several others.

CARDS OFFER SYRACUSE COMMIT

Miami Booker T. Washington standout cornerback Davante Davis gave a verbal commitment to Syracuse earlier this month.

But that didn't stop the Cardinals from offering Davis.

The 6-2, 180-pound Davis is a three-star prospect and adds a U of L offer to others from Cincinnati, Central Florida, Florida International and others.

CARDS OFFER CINCINNATI '16 STAR

Louisville isn't the first but the latest scholarship offer for 2016 Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy four-star defensive end Prince Michael-Sammons.

The 6-foot-6, 260-pound Michael-Sammons also has offers from Cincinnati, Duke, Akron, Illinois, Bowling Green and Toledo.

Michael-Sammons has already visited several schools, including Tennessee and Vanderbilt and is also getting serious interest from Michigan and Ohio State.

He is a former native of Lagos, Nigeria.

ANOTHER OFFER IN TENNESSEE

The Cardinals have been very active in Tennessee in the past week and another offer went out recently to a lineman in the Volunteer State.

U of L offered Knoxville, Tenn., Farragut offensive tackle Nathan Gilliam. He's a 6-foot-5, 275-pound three-star prospect.

Gilliam also has offers from Kentucky, Cincinnati, Mississippi State, Middle Tennessee, South Carolina and Wake Forest.

*The Cardinals also offered another Nashville lineman – Christian School tackle Alex Givens. The 6-foot-6, 280-pound Givens also has offers from Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Cincinnati and Tennessee.

YOUNG OFFERS GOING OUT

The U of L staff has offered several other young prospects:

*The Cardinals are among six early offers for Nashville, Tenn., Ensworth 2017 athlete Jacoby Stevens. He also has offers from Tennessee, Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi and LSU.

*The Cards offered Phenix City, Ala., Central four-star defensive back John Broussard. He has offers from Georgia, UK, LSU and Ole Miss among others.

*Jacksonville, Fla., First Coast standout 2017 wide receiver D.J. Matthews also landed an offer from U of L. He has offers from Clemson, LSU, North Carolina and South Carolina early in the process.
