Cards offer six from New Orleans power

The University of Louisville offered football scholarships to six players from New Orleans power Warren Easton, the favorite for the Class 4-A Louisiana state title. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the six offers.

University of Louisville defensive back Terrell Buckley tweeted earlier in the week about being in New Orleans.

But he wasn't there for any fun on Bourbon Street. No, Buckley was busy at work.

Buckley spent time at several schools in the area, offering scholarships to six prospects from New Orleans power Warren Easton High School.

Warren Easton is considered one of the favorites for the Class 4-A state title in Louisiana in the coming season.

Among the players offered by U of L was wide receiver Dedrick Shy, who said the Cardinals are his first offer. He has interest from Louisiana Tech, Kansas State, Utah and others.

"I can't even explain how excited I am," Shy said. "I didn't talk to the coach because I was taking my exam, but I'm excited.

"I know Louisville had one of the best quarterbacks in the nation (last season) and one of the best teams."

Shy said he was injured some last season and his touched were limited as a junior. But he will have an expanded role this season.

"We are ready to be state champs," he said.

U of L also offered four-star linebacker Arthur McGinnis, who now has close to 20 offers. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound McGinnis is the No. 14 middle linebacker in the country, according to He also has offers from Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tennessee and Mississippi State among others.

Three-star wide receiver Darrell Clark also now has a U of L offer to go along with offers from Missouri, Tulane, Nebraska, Memphis, Utah and Clemson. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound Clark had 30 catches for 440 yards and eight touchdowns as a junior for Warren Easton.

Defensive end Kendal Franklin (6-1, 220) adds his U of L offer to others from Arizona, Boise State and Louisiana Tech, while Tulane commitment Devin Glenn was also offered. Glenn is a speedy 5-foot-8, 175-pound running back, who can also play in the slot and at cornerback.

Buckley also offered 2016 wide receiver Clyde Leflore, who already also has offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma, Clemson, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, UCLA and Georgia.
