Schimmel, Taylor begin WNBA careers tonight

Former University of Louisville women's standouts Shoni Schimmel and Asia Taylor will begin their professional careers in the WNBA game with season-openers on Friday night. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the two former U of L stars.

Less than two months after finishing their college careers at the University of Louisville, two former Cardinals begin WNBA play tonight.

Shoni Schimmel will play in her first game for the Atlanta Dream, while Asia Taylor will suit up for the Minnesota Lynx in season openers.

Schimmel, the No. 8 pick in the WNBA draft, will open with the Dream against the San Antonio Stars. She was an All-American at U of L and scored eight points in the only preseason game for the Dream.

Taylor was the No. 36 pick for the Lynx and became just the seventh player to ever be taken last in the Draft to make a 12-man roster. She will be with the Lynx tonight on the road playing against the Washington Mystics.
