Las Vegas '16 star 'loves' the Pitino style

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman 2016 big man Zach Collins has seen interest from the University of Louisville pick up in recent weeks. Cardinal Authority spoke with the 6-foot-10 Collins during the adidas Gauntlet event in Fishers, Ind.

Las Vegas Bishop Gorman 2016 post player Zach Collins has been on the University of Louisville's radar since a visit for a practice last season to his high school by Rick Pitino and assistant coach Wyking Jones.

But in recent weeks the interest level has picked up for the 6-foot-10 Collins.

Jones and Pitino saw him at an adidas event earlier this month in Dallas and Collins said he's heard "a lot from the Cardinals."

"They have been in contact with my dad, he's an assistant coach, a lot in recent weeks," Collins said. "We've heard a lot from (Jones)."

Collins, who plays with top '15 prospects Stephen Zimmerman and Chase Jeter at Bishop Gorman, already has five scholarship offers.

He has offers from UNLV, Arizona, California, New Mexico and USC and is hearing from "a whole lot" of other schools.

"It's been crazy," Collins said. "I went from coaches just calling and checking in, to having five offers at the end of one weekend.

"It's been crazy but it's fun."

As far as the U of L interest, Collins said he was "for sure" interested in learning more about the Cardinals' program from the coaches.

"They have a great program and I love watching them play," he said. "I like their style and coach Pitino is great.

"Distance (from Las Vegas) wouldn't matter if I went to a big school like that and they treated me the right way. I'll definitely take a look (at the Cardinals)."
