U of L football staff handing out more offers

Cardinal Authority has a notebook looking at some of the recent scholarship offers handed out by the University of Louisville football staff. The Cardinals have two commitments in the Class of 2015.

NEW SMYRNA OL SEE LIST CONTINUE TO GROW

New Smyrna Beach, Fla., offensive lineman Jalen Merrick continues to see his list of college scholarship offers grow.

The 6-foot-4, 325-pound Merrick has had quite a spring with tons of big-time interest.

On Wednesday, Merrick landed offers from the University of Louisville and LSU. He also has offers this week from Arkansas, Florida State and Cincinnati and a visit from Georgia.

Merrick also has offers from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Wisconsin among a few others on his offer list.

"Jalen is a big athlete and he just played his first year of real football," Lance Jenkins, the head coach at New Smyrna Beach, told Scout.com analyst Chad Simmons earlier this month. "Jalen has fantastic feet, he has quickness, and he is benching 400 pounds now. He is 6-foot-4, 325 pounds, and he runs the 40 yard dash in 5.1 seconds and he has a 31-inch vertical."

Merrick has a 3.8 grade-point average.

BIG-TIME N.C. RB GETS CARDS OFFER

Princeton, N.C., High School running back Johnny Frasier is considered one of the best in the state of North Carolina.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Frasier is picking up a ton of offers this spring after rushing for over 3,000 yards and 45 touchdowns as a junior. He also caught 555 yards of passes and 5 TDs.

Frasier has offers also from Florida State, North Carolina, Duke, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, Wisconsin and others.

Texas QB GETS THE CALL FROM CARDS

D'Eriq King, one of the top 2016 quarterbacks in the state of Texas, now has a U of L offer.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound King, who attends Manvel, Tx., High School, also has offers from Clemson, Missouri, UCLA and Michigan State and interest from Baylor and several others.

King is a dual-threat quarterback who named District 22-5A MVP as a sophomore at Manvel. As a sophomore, King passed for 2,626 yards and 36 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,288 yards and 18 TDs. He has 2,000 yards rushing and 4,500 yards passing and 79 TDs in two seasons.

The Cardinals also offered King's teammates - Will Lockett, Reggie Hemphill and Deontay Anderson.

Lockett is a 2015 prospect at cornerback. The 6-foot, 185-pound Lockett has offers from Indiana, Houston, Maryland and others.

The 6-foot, 170-pound Hemphill is also a 2016 prospect is a wide receiver with more than 10 offers, including Texas, Notre Dame, LSU, Oklahoma and UCLA.

Anderson is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound safety with more than 20 offers, including Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, UCLA, Notre Dame and LSU.

MORE TEXAS OFFERS ROLLING OUT

The Cardinals are putting a lot of time in Texas and have offered a few more prospects:

***Ryan Newsome is a 5-foot-9, 175-pound Aledo, Tx., High School from the Class of 2015 with over two dozen scholarship offers, including from Alabama, Texas, Texas Tech, Baylor, Florida State, Oregon, Oklahoma and Notre Dame.

***U of L was the first offer for Dallas Skyline 2016 running back Da'Leon Ward. He rushed for 859 yards and eight TDs as a sophomore.

***Houston Kinkaid 2015 offensive lineman Tyler Higby is closing in on double digit offers after landing one from U of L. The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Highby also has offers from Auburn, Houston, LSU and TCU among others.

***Houston Westfield 2015 offensive guard Cordel Iwuagwu has had a big week. He's landed offers from U of L, Purdue, Central Florida, TCU and Fresno State in two days. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound Iwuagwu has more than a dozen offers now, including Northwestern and Iowa State.

***Two of Iwuagwu's teammates were also offered by U of L: defensive tackle Ed Oliver (6-2, 270) and wide receiver Tyrie Cleveland (6-2, 180) from the Class of 2016.

FLORIDA '16 STANDOUT CB LANDS OFFER

Tallahassee, Fla., Florida A&M University School 2016 cornerback Armunz Matthews grabbed an offer from U of L on Wednesday.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Matthews also has offers from LSU, Kentucky, South Florida, East Carolina and a few others.

CARDS OFFERING PROSPECTS IN 2017 CLASS

The had at least 10 scholarship offers already out to 2017 prospects before this week.

Now, they're adding a few more.

The Cardinals are one of the first offers in for 2017 Coconut Creek, Fla., wide receiver Jerry Jeudy.
