Kentucky extended a new scholarship offer Tuesday night to a Lone Star State defensive back.

William Lockett, a three-star prospect from Manvel High School, added the Wildcats to a list of offers that previously included schools like Houston, Missouri, Michigan State, Maryland and Oregon State.

"I knew the offer could be coming because Kentucky's safeties coach (Craig Naivar) came to see me Monday at my school," Lockett said. "He told me the head man (Mark Stoops) really liked my film and everything he saw from my film led them to offer me a scholarship.

"I was really excited. I'm going to try to visit the campus this summer and learn more about the program."

Asked if he's got a favorite at this time, Lockett (5-11, 180, 4.5) said no, but he does see some things in UK that appeal to him.

"It's the SEC and Coach Stoops has a lot of success coaching defensive backs," he said.

He has been cited in other Scout reports as having a strong liking for the SEC. Missouri is another program for which he has discussed setting up a summer visit.

A two-sport star who also excels in track and field (he boasts a 36-inch vertical jump), Lockett does not rule out making a decision sometime prior to his senior season.

"I'm looking for a place where the team and the school feel like home and somewhere I can feel comfortable the next four years, as well as having a chance to play early," Lockett said.

As a junior, Lockett Lockett had 45 tackles, 12 pass break-ups, two interceptions and one pickoff for a touchdown. He also forced two forced fumbles.
