The University of Louisville basketball staff made a lot of phone calls to Class of 2016 prospects over the weekend, the first time schools could contact those prospects.
Many of the prospects were familiar named the Cardinals had already been recruiting, but some were new names they're just now jumping in on.
One of those new names is T.J. Leaf.
The 6-foot-10, 205-pound Leaf, a power forward from El Cajon (Calif.) Foothills Christian School, is considered the top West Coast prospect in the Class of 2016 and confirmed the U of L interest with Cardinal Authority.
"Yes, they have started to recruit me," Leaf said. "They just texted me (Saturday night)."
Leaf is a five-star prospect and ranks as the No. 13 prospect overall in the '16 class by Scout.com. He's the No. 3 power forward.
While Leaf said UCLA, Indiana, Arizona and Michigan are recruiting him the hardest, Leaf said he wasn't close to making a decision.
"Definitely open to it," Leaf said on learning more about the U of L program. "I'm very open to it."
Leaf has plenty of other schools showing interest and this weekend picked up offers from Michigan and Texas to add to his list.
While it was his first contact from the U of L coaches, Leaf is familiar with the Louisville area with family nearby. His grandmother lives in Indianapolis and he said nearly 80 percent of his family is rooted in Evansville, Ind.
Cardinal Authority will keep you posted on the recruitment of Leaf.
