A's Lose Marks Off Waivers

Justin Marks, we barely knew thee. Only two weeks after being acquired by the A's, Marks was lost on a waiver claim by the Texas Rangers. We have more on that move and other transactions around the A's system.

Here Today, Gone Tomorrow

It seems that Justin Marks just isn't destined to spend a significant amount of time in the Oakland A's system. The A's second-overall pick in 2009 spent just one full season in the A's chain before being traded to the Kansas City Royals in between the 2010 and 2011 campaigns. He returned to the A's organization earlier this month when the A's acquired him for cash considerations from Kansas City. He was designated for assignment today and claimed off of waivers by the Texas Rangers.

Marks appeared in four games with Triple-A Sacramento. He didn't allow a run in 3.2 innings, striking out two and walking one. Marks' place on the 40-man roster is likely to be taken by Brad Mills, who will be added to the A's 40-man and 25-man rosters on Friday so that he can start for the A's against the Boston Red Sox on Friday. Mills was acquired earlier this week from the Milwaukee Brewers for cash considerations.

Beloit, Vermont Swap Pitchers

After the minor league All-Star break is generally when transactions around the minor leagues tend to pick-up the pace. With the A-ball All-Star breaks in the books, the A's sent a few players to new spots on Friday.

Right-handers Tyler Hollstegge and Blake McMullen have been transferred to short-season Vermont. Right-hander Trevor Bayless has been promoted from Vermont to Beloit. Bayless began the season with Beloit.

Hollstegge made 11 appearances with Beloit. He walked 11 and struck-out nine in 12 innings and his ERA was 11.25. He also gave up a run in two innings for High-A Stockton earlier in the year.

McMullen had an 8.04 ERA in 15.2 innings for Beloit this season. He struck-out 11 and walked eight.

Bayless had one scoreless, two-inning appearance with Vermont. He struck-out three. Earlier this year, Bayless had a 9.00 ERA in nine innings with the Snappers. He struck-out five and walked 10 during those nine innings.

The A's also moved RHP Jesus Zambrano from the Vermont roster to the AZL A's roster. Zambrano had yet to appear in a game for Vermont before the move. He pitched in the Dominican Summer League last year.

Aliotti Returns To Sacramento

First baseman Anthony Aliotti is back where he began the season -- Triple-A Sacramento. After posting an 870 OPS in 48 games with Double-A Midland, Aliotti earned a promotion back to Sacramento. He hit only .159 in 14 games with the River Cats to start the year.

Aliotti was a bit of a jack of all trades for Midland, playing in the corner outfield, as well as his customary first base with Midland. He may continue to see time in the outfield with Nate Freiman and Daric Barton already on the River Cats' roster.

Before leaving Midland, Aliotti was one of six RockHounds named to the Texas League All-Star team.
