South Carolina RB is No. 8 for Cards

Irmo, S.C., Dutch Fort running back Matt Colburn has committed to the University of Louisville football team, giving the Cardinals eight commitments in the Class of 2015. Colburn is an explosive running back with gaudy statistics.

Matt Colburn, who piled up 3,000-plus all-purpose yards and 42 total touchdowns last season in leading Dutch Fork High School to the Class 4-A, Division I state title in South Carolina, has made a college decision.

Less than two weeks after performing well enough to earn a scholarship offer at the University of Louisville camp, the 5-foot-8, 185-pound Colburn committed to the Cardinals.

Colburn picked U of L over 15 other offers, including UAB, Toldeo, Marshall, Furman, James Madison, Tennessee State and others. He had recently also visited Tennessee, North Carolina State and several other schools for camp.

He ran the fastest 40 time at Tennessee's camp last weekend, clocked in 4.47 seconds.

One of the most dynamic players in South Carolina, Colburn said he "loved" his time at U of L during camp. Dutch Fork played in Papa John's Cardinal Stadium when he was a sophomore, so he also "enjoyed the stadium a lot."

"I love their stadium and indoor facility," he said after camp. "Our team played there 2 years ago and it was awesome. I was amazed at how big it was as well as the indoor facility. The weight room and training room (along with their football facility) is awesome! They just got this 3.5 million dollar grant or something and they're doubling the size of the weight room and the training room. They're also adding players lounge on the second floor as well as a study center. They've got a lot of promising things to come!"

As a junior, Colburn was sensational. He ran for 2,488 yards - a school record - and 40 touchdowns. He averaged 7.6 yards a carry and also had 418 yards receiving and averaged 23.2 yards on kickoff returns.

Colburn is commitment No. 8 in the Class of 2015 for the Cardinals.
