Rick Pitino checks out in-state prospect

Owensboro High School senior Aric Holman is one of the hottest Class of 2015 recruits in the country. He picked up 10 offers this week and is now drawing interest from Louisville. Holman spoke to Cardinal Authority after his big week.

Heading into the month of July, Owensboro High School senior forward Aric Holman had an offer from Northern Kentucky University.

After one week with his new AAU team - Hoop Dreams - the 6-foot-9 Holman is one of the hottest recruits in the country.

Holman told Cardinal Authority after finishing up at the Elite 32 in Marietta, Ga., that he has 11 offers and interest from the University of Louisville after Rick Pitino watched him.

"It's been fun," Holman said. "I think I have been more aggressive and just playing with more confidence. It's been a good weekend.

"I think playing with these guys, I was just more free to show what I can do. I wasn't limited to one thing and not showing what I can do."

Holman said he picked up offers from Kansas State, VCU, Oklahoma State, Western Kentucky, Samford, Florida Gulf Coast, Morehead State, Murray State and Auburn.

While he visited U of L unofficially recently, Holman said it was a "big surprise," when Pitino and assistant coach Mike Balado walked in on Sunday morning to the gym to watch him and Hoop Dreams teammate Eli Wright, a '16 prospect.

"I'm a Louisville fan and my dad is a bigger Louisville fan," Holman said. "So it was fun, but I just tried to play my game."

Holman said he heard through text message from Pitino after the game and his dad has also talked to the Hall of Fame coach. U of L has not offered but will evaluate him more this week in Atlanta at the Under Armour "Finals" event.

"He told me he thinks I would be a nice addition to their program," Holman said. "And he told me that he would be in touch.

"He said he's like to coach me."

Holman averaged 13 points and eight rebounds a game as a junior at Owensboro.
