Commitment analysis: Deng Adel

Cardinal Authority takes a closer look at the University of Louisville's first commitment in the Class of 2014 - Deng Adel. He's a 6-foot-7 forward from Bradenton, Fla., Victory Rock Prep and is a native of Sudan, who grew up in Australia. Adel is ranked No. 18 in the '15 class.

Recruit: Deng Adel

Position: Small forward

Location: Bradenton, Fla., Victory Rock Prep School

Height: 6-7

Ranking: No. 18 nationally; five-star; No. 2 small forward

The scouting report: "A high-level athlete, Adel is a native of Australia that arrived in the U.S. the fall before his junior season. Adel, a 6-7 SF, plays with effort and energy on both ends. He's a strong driver and finisher in the paint, as he's physically strong and is an impressive leaper. Off the catch, he's a good shooter to 22-feet. If he's going to deck it, he's likely to drive all the way to the rim. He's a good rebounder and potentially a good defender" -

Quotable: Evan Daniels, "Adel is an exceptional athlete and has very good size for a wing at 6-7. He's quick, can make shots off the catch to three and is improving as as mid-range jump shooter. He also plays very well in transition and in space. Adel is a good fit for Louisville's system and should be effective in their press. He has a lot of potential on the defensive end because of his lateral speed, length and overall athleticism. He takes that end of the floor seriously."

Overall analysis: Adel is a great start to the 2015 class for the Cardinals. He was the top target for about a year or so and assistant Mike Balado put in a lot of work. Adel is ready to play right away and should be able to thrive in the Rick Pitino system. He's a no non-sense player with a high motor. Fun to watch.

The rest of the class:

Look for the Cardinals to put the full-court press on the guards in this class. U of L is after about 6-7 and will try to narrow down that focus this week. A guard and a big man are likely adds.
