Louisville football: Recruiting notebook

Here are a few University of Louisville football recruiting notes, including some new scholarship offers handed out by the U of L staff.

CARDS OFFER TOP '17 CORNER

The University of Louisville football staff has started to focus recruiting attention some on the younger grades in recent months.

The latest offered handed out by the staff is to a top 2017 cornerback from Georgia. Lawrenceville, Ga., Archer standout Jamyest Williams reports an offer from the Cardinals.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound Williams also has offers from Clemson, Wake Forest, Michigan, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Cincinnati and Charlotte. He's gotten interest from Georgia, Auburn, Vanderbilt and others.

As a freshman at Archer, Williams had 32 tackles, 16 pass breakups, three interceptions and 400 all-purpose yards.

TWO MORE Miami OFFERS OUT

U of L has had good luck in the Miami area in recent years and now two more offers are out to a pair of players from the city.

Miami Killian senior cornerback Sheldrick Redwine has added an offer from the Cardinals to his impressive - and growing - list of offers, while Killian running back Trevon Sands also added an offer from U of L.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Redwine has almost 20 offers, including West Virginia, Arkansas, South Florida, Kentucky, Indiana, Rutgers, UConn, Illinois, Minnesota and Central Florida.

Redwine committed to West Virginia on March 7 and then in mid-May opted to back off that commitment and re-open the process.

As a junior, Redwine had 81 tackles, two interceptions and a pair of pass breakups.

The 5-11, 180-pound Sands has given a soft verbal to South Florida and also has offers from Florida International, Kentucky, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Akron and others.

U of L freshman cornerback Trumaine Washington also attended Miami Killian.

ANOTHER Oklahoma QB GETS OFFER

A month or so after offering Broken Arrow, Okla., quarterback Scott Gilkey a scholarship, the U of L staff dipped back into Oklahoma.

U of L was recently the first school to offer a scholarship to Edmond, Okla., Santa Fe 2016 quarterback Keaton Torre.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Torre was the backup last season to Scout300 QB and current Oklahoma freshman Justice Hansen.

Torre did see some time when Hansen went down with an injury. He played in six games, completing 65 percent of his passes for 1,297 yards with nine TDs and six interceptions.

WR FROM FLORIDA GETS CARDS OFFER

Citra, Fla., North Marion three-star wide receiver Freddie Swain - a member of the Class of 2016 - has landed a U of L offer.

The 6-1, 180-pound Swain already has offers from Florida, Miami, Alabama, Arkansas and Cincinnati. He also has interest from Florida State, Georgia, Auburn and others.

As a junio, Swain caught 25 receptions for 581 yards and eight touchdowns, while averaging an impressive 23.2 yards a catch.

FAU COMMIT GETS OFFERED BY U OF L

Fort Lauderdale, Fla., St. Thomas Aquinas receiver Jawuan Harris, who committed to Florida Atlantic in April, now has a U of L offer.

The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Harris is a member of the Class of 2015.
