Commitment analysis: Traveon Samuel

Cardinal Authority takes a closer look at the University of Louisville football programs 12th commitment in the Class of 2015 - Traveon Samuel. He's a 5-foot-8, 180-pound running back from Phenix City, Ala., Central High School.

Recruit: Traveon Samuel

Position: Running back/wide receiver

Location: Phenix City, Ala., Central

Height/weight: 5-8/180

Ranking: 3-star, No. 75 RB

The scouting report: Samuel is a speedy running back, who at the next level because of his size will likely play a slot receiver. He has a great burst, has been times in 4.41 for the 40 and has extremely good hands and great vision. A ton of schools were looking, some just stayed away too long because of his size.

Quotable: analyst Chad Simmons: "Kid can make big plays... Size is not on his size and that held some schools back... Listed at 5-8, may be 5-7ish... So he is on the smaller size, but he can play bigger."

Overall analysis: He's not the biggest prospect but size won't matter with Samuel. He's an exciting player who will be able to play in the backfield, out of the slot position and should be a key on special teams as a return guy. He'll end up being a big-time steal.

The rest of the class: U of L coach Bobby Petrino said the Cardinals would make the state of Alabama a priority and that's been the case so far. Samuel is the third commitment from Alabama. He was the second commitment of Friday and the third for the week. His commitment will likely end any other additions of an all-purpose back or running back in the class.
