Donovan Mitchell cuts list to five

Indiana was not among the five finalists for 2015 guard Donovan Mitchell, the fastest-rising player in the country during July.

Just three days after trimming his list to 10 schools, 2015 guard Donovan Mitchell made the list even smaller, cutting it down to five schools on Sunday.

Indiana, which was among the final 10 schools for Mitchell, was not included in the top five. Those schools: Boston College, Florida State, Louisville, Providence and Villanova.

Mitchell told reporters in July that he would definitely take visits to Indiana and Louisville, but things often change in a hurry in the recruiting world.

Mitchell, a 6-foot-3 guard from New Hampshire, was probably the fastest-rising player in July because of his outstanding play during all three evaluation periods. He was unranked by Scout.com, but will likely be a top 30 player when the rankings are updated soon.

Indiana was one of the first of the major schools to get involved with Mitchell before he blew up in July. Indiana offered Mitchell on June 9, more than a month before both Louisville and Villanova extended a scholarship offer.

Mitchell will take official visits to Villanova on Aug. 4 and Louisville on Aug. 8. He told our Evan Daniels on Thursday that he was deciding whether to visit Indiana in August or September, but obviously that won't take place now.
