University of Louisville women's basketball head coach Jeff Walz made finding an impact post player for the 2015 recruiting a priority and on Tuesday morning he received just that.
Erin DeGrate a Top 50 prospect of Waco (Tex.) La Vega High School made an official visit with the University of Louisville over the weekend and pledged to become a Cardinal before heading back to the Lone Star State.
“I committed this morning before I left,” DeGrate confirmed with Cardinal Authority. “It feels great. They welcomed me to the family and were excited.”
DeGrate, who attended the U of L football win over Miami on Monday night, picked the Cardinals over a lengthy list of the top programs in the country. Baylor, Florida State, Kansas, Michigan State, Northwestern, Texas, Texas A&M, and Washington are among the many that sought her services.
“It was coach Walz and the team that made the difference,” said explained. “I really like how it feels there.”
Walz made an impression on the 6-foot-5 post player early in the recruiting process.
”From the day that he walked into her home, for her home visit, Erin absolutely fell in love," DeGrate's AAU coach Jamarius Byrd said. "She really likes his personality, with how he representing his program, with the coaching staff and all the assistants. She had an opportunity two weeks ago to spend time with the team and she absolutely fell in love with the team as well."
DeGrate anticipates returning to Louisville to attend a few Cardinals home games at the KFC Yum! Center.
"I think Louisville is a great fit for her," Byrd added. "I really am happy for her. She's going to do great things there."
