Bonnafon won't travel with the team this week

University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino confirmed on Wednesday that freshman backup quarterback Reggie Bonnafon won't travel with the team this weekend to Miami for a game against Florida International. Bonnafon's father, Wallace, passed away on Monday and the funeral is scheduled for Saturday.

University of Louisville freshman quarterback Reggie Bonnafon won't be with the team when the Cardinals travel to Miami this weekend for a game at Florida International.

Bonnafon, who has played in the last two games for the Cardinals, is spending time with his family after his father - Wallace - passed away on Monday. He died of heart failure and the funeral is scheduled for Saturday.

Bonnafon didn't practice on Tuesday and isn't expected to return to the team until sometime next week - after the funeral arrangements have been completed.

"He needs to spend this time with his family," U of L offensive coordinator Garrick McGee said on Tuesday after practice.

U of L coach Bobby Petrino confirmed the news that Bonnafon wouldn't play this weekend on Wednesday morning on the ACC Conference Call.

"We won't have Reggie this week," he said. "It's a very tough situation for him and his family, something that caught him a little bit off guard. The plans are they're going to have the showing on Friday and the funeral on Saturday, so he's just going to focus on helping his mom and the rest of his family."

In two games, Bonnafon has completed 14 of 20 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown, while rushing six times for 21 yards and two more TDs.
