University of Louisville head coach Dan McDonnell held the team's second full scrimmage during fall ball on Friday afternoon at Jim Patterson Stadium and witnessed an offensive explosion by both the Red and Black squads.
The Red team, which trailed 6-1 after two innings, came back to defeat the Black team 14-10 in seven innings. With a small group of fans spread throughout Patterson Stadium, seniors Sutton Whiting and Zach Lucas, who were both captains for the 2014 season, led the winning squad with 3 hits each. Sutton had an RBI double, followed by a run-scoring triple in the late innings to help fuel the comeback.
"I really like Lucas, Whiting and Mike White, the older guys are playing hard and they need to," said McDonnell. "They need to set the tone for how you play at his level and how you play at the University of Louisville."
Freshman Austin Clemons, a product of Louisville St. X, and sophomore catcher Will Smith each had three hits for the Black team.
The Cardinals will conduct another scrimmage at 3:30p.m. on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium. Fans are welcome to attend.
