Whiting 'excited' for Louisville's future

Cardinal Authority visits with University of Louisville senior shortstop Sutton Whiting to discuss the team's progress through fall ball.

University of Louisville senior shortstop Sutton Whiting has experienced quite a bit during his previous three seasons with the Cardinals. Two trips to the College World Series, multiple conference championships, and serving as a team co-captain are among the items dotting his college career resume.

That experience gives him a good perspective on the newest Cardinal roster, which includes 19 veterans from last years squad and a host of talented newcomers. His impressive is like many others, this years team has the talent to compete for a third consecutive trip to Omaha.

"We just have to keep getting better and working everyday," Whiting told Cardinal Authority. "We have a lot of young guys coming up and a lot of good pitching, so we're excited."

Whiting has made 123 starts over the past two seasons and has become one of the nation's premier base-runners during that time. He finished among the nation's top five in stolen bases with 37 last season, upping his career total to 64 thefts.

The program's annual Pizza Bowl week will be held this week to close out fall ball. The best-of-3 series is slated for Wednesday (3:30pm), Friday (3:30pm) & Saturday (11am) at Jim Patterson Stadium.
