'16 commit to visit for Florida State game

University of Louisville 2016 defensive back commit Baylen Buchanan will make an unofficial visit later this month.

Among the sold out crowd at Memorial Stadium for the University of Louisville's road game at Clemson was the first pledge in the Cardinals 2016 recruiting class.

Baylen Buchanan, a cornerback at Suwanee (Ga.) Peachtree High School north of Atlanta, was at Clemson as a guest of the Tigers program. He was joined on the trip by his father Ray Buchanan, a former University of Louisville All-American defensive back.

”I thought it was a great game,” Buchanan told Cardinal Authority. “I couldn't take my eyes off it for one second.”

Buchanan, who currently holds scholarship offers from Louisville and Wake Forest, will make the trip to the Derby City soon.

“I keep in contact with coach Terrell Buckley almost every week,” he said. “I'm coming to Louisville when they play Florida State.”

The junior has helped Peachtree to a 5-2 start, 3-1 in region play, with a solid performance on the corner.

“The season is going good,” he said. “I have plenty pass break ups not sure how many and I have 17 solo tackles and 20 overall.”

His father, who played in the NFL for 12 seasons, is impressed by Baylen's development.

“He's big and he's fast,” said his father. “He's kind of cheating because he's getting a little bit earlier than I did. The light-bulb didn't really hit me until I got to college and it's doing it in high school.”

Off to an impressive start and certainly a prospect on the rise, his father is excited to see him wearing a Cardinals uniform, but is also looking forward to him creating his own identity as his college days near.

“I don't want him to follow in my footsteps,” he explained. “I want him to create his own way. I don't want him out here wearing my number. I don't want to put a lot of pressure on him. He's good as it is. He's really talented and I don't want that type of pressure ever put on him because I did some great, great things. Sometimes people have the expectation that your kid is going to do the same thing. I look at him sometimes and think he might be even better.”

For Baylen, the reasoning is more about the atmosphere that surrounds the program.

“I love the vibe around there and the fan base is just really loyal,” he said.
