Louisville women picked No. 3 in ACC

The University of Louisville women's basketball team is one of the elite teams in the ACC Conference, according to the preseason poll. The Cardinals were picked No. 3 in the league by the media and also by the coaches.

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz said earlier in the week that his team's goal was not to win a conference championship.

"We want to win a national title," Walz said.

But along the way an ACC title wouldn't be all that bad and that could happen this season, according to the preseason polls in the ACC.

Louisville, a newcomer to the league, was picked third in the coaches' preseason poll and also in the Blue Ribbon Panel of media members.

Notre Dame was the top pick in both polls, followed by Duke and then U of L. North Carolina and Florida State round out the top five.

The Cardinals did get two first-place votes in the media poll.

U of L senior Sara Hammond was on the All-ACC preseason team by the media and the coaches, while Mariya Moore was named to the All-Rookie team by the media and Myisha Hines-Allen was on there in the coaches' poll.

U of L starts the season Nov. 14 at IUPUI.
