Louisville's Pitino in Florida recruiting

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and Mike Balado took advantage of an off day to get on the recruiting trail. The U of L coaches saw a pair of prospects in Florida on Thursday and Friday before returning home to Louisville.

With the University of Louisville basketball team getting a couple of days off, head coach Rick Pitino took some time to get out on the road recruiting.

Pitino and assistant Mike Balado spent time in Florida visiting with two prospects.

The U of L coaches stopped in to see Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons four-star 2016 forward Maverick Rowan on Thurdsay afternoon before heading to Orlando Christian Prep 2018 point guard Damon Harge on Friday. Rowan has an offer from U of L, it was the first time the coaches had watched Harge.

The 6-foot-6 Rowan is a former Pittsburgh commitment who re-opened his recruitment last month. He was then offered a scholarship by U of L a week later before Pitino and Balado paid him a first visit on Sept. 22.

A four-star prospect, Rowan ranks No. 44 in the Class of 2016 by Scout.com. He had been committed to Pittsburgh for more than a year prior to last month. In August, Rowan and his family moved from Midland, Pa., to Fort Lauderdale. He helped Lincoln Park Charter to a Class A state championship last season.

Rowan's father, Ron, told Cardinal Authority that his son wants to make a visit to U of L for a game at some point this season.

"We're just trying to coordinate schedules," the elder Rowan said. "We want to take a visit somewhere that we can see a practice and a game. We're working on it."

The 5-foot-8 Harge is a freshman at Orlando Christian and was in Louisville earlier this month for the John Lucas Midwest Invitational. He made an unofficial visit to the U of L campus just after the camp ended.

Harge already has offers from DePaul, Memphis, North Carolina Central and Pacific. He received the N.C. Central offer before the seventh grade.
