Louisville commit Smith now a 4-star player

Louisville commitment Dee Smith is now a 4-star prospect and top 300 player nationally after a bump in his ranking by Scout.com. The Florence, Ala., High School standout is ranked as the No. 241 player nationally.

Florence, Ala., safety Darius Smith gave a verbal commitment to the University of Louisville last week and this week had a bump in his ranking.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Smith, known as Dee Smith, has been bumped to a four-star prospect by Scout.com. He was switched to a safety – the position he projects at in college – and is ranked as the No. 18 safety in the country.

Smith is also listed as the No. 241 prospect nationally.

”I don’t look at the rankings too much,” Smith said. “I don’t think I’m ever underrated or overrated, I just go out there and play.”

Smith said he decided that Friday was “a good day to do it,” about his commitment to the Cardinals. He committed to the Cardinals over Kentucky, Miami, Missouri and North Carolina State.

”It was something about their coaching staff,” Smith said. “They were really laid back and I just bonded well with them. I love the campus and I loved the atmosphere around the school and the team.”

Smith has three interceptions this season on defense and has scored three touchdowns, playing limited times as a wide receiver on offense.

Already selected to the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game in December, Smith is the fifth commitment from the state of Alabama for the Cardinals.

”I finally feel like it is a burden off my chest,” Smith said. “Everybody kept asking me where I was going, so now I can finally tell them.

”Louisville is where I felt at home.”
