Louisville's Mauldin out for Boston College

University of Louisville senior linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin won't be available on Saturday for the Cardinals' game against Boston College. Mauldin tweaked a hamstring several weeks ago and won't dress for the game at Chestnut Hill, Mass., on Saturday at 7:15 p.m.

The University of Louisville defense will be without one of its best players on Saturday night when the Cardinals' play at Boston College.

Senior linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin, who has 12.5 tackles for a loss on the season and leads the team in sacks, will miss the game because of a hamstring injury.

"It's unfortunate," U of L coach Bobby Petrino said. "He was playing well. It's just a situation where he needs time."

Mauldin hurt the hamstring several weeks ago but played last Thursday against Florida State. He re-injured the hamstring in the loss to the Seminoles.

Petrino said he's just not ready to go this week.

U of L will rely on junior-college transfer Trevon Young and sophomore Nick Dawson in the lineup this week. Young has played in seven games since arriving on campus last January. He has six tackles, including two tackles for a loss and a sack. Dawson has played in eight games and has four tackles this season.

"They both have different strengths," Petrino said. "And they're both good players."

Linebacker James Burgess, who is third on the team in tackles with 47, is at full strength and will play against the Eagles.
