Louisville women set to sign No. 1 class

University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz is expected to sign the nations top-ranked recruiting class on Wednesday. The Cardinals have commitments from five players and are expected to land all of those prospects and finish at No. 1 in the rankings. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the U of L women's haul.

With one of the top players in the country expected to sign on Wednesday morning, University of Louisville women's basketball coach Jeff Walz and his staff will ink the top-ranked class in the country.

The Cardinals are expected to sign five players on the first day of the week-long national signing period for college basketball prospects.

Dan Olson of ESPNW said the Cardinals class is "just such a good job by Jeff Walz and his staff," and is ranked just ahead of Duke and Connecticut. ProspectsNation.com also ranks the Cardinals' as the No. 1 class, while All-Star Girls Report has it at No. 2.

The jewel of the loaded class if No. 1 ranked Asia Durr, a guard from Atlanta. She picked U of L over the major powers nationally and is the only player ever signed by U of L that has been ranked in the top five of the rankings.

Walz also will sign Virginia guard Taja Cole, New York wing Brianna Jones, Pennsylvania forward Samantha Fuehring and Texas center Erin DeGrate. All five of the prospects U of L will sign are ranked in the top 50 nationally.

Cole, who is coached during the summer by legendary AAU figure Boo Williams, is ranked as high as No. 12 in the country by ProspectsNation.

"That's a great class for Jeff," Williams said. "It reminds me a lot of the Kentucky (men's) classes, but in women's basketball the players stay for four years.

"Jeff and his staff do a great job and you can see that with this class."
