The University of Louisville basketball programs have had recent success with signing guards from New York. The men with Russ Smith and the women with Bria Smith, just to name a few New Yorkers who have had success withe the Cardinals.
U of L women's coach Jeff Walz is going to try it again.
North Babylon, N.Y., guard Brianna Jones is the next in line from New York, signing with the U of L women's team on Wednesday. Jones had been committed since May and has been recruited by the U of L staff for more than a year and a half.
Jones is part of the No. 1 recruiting class in the country. She picked U of L over Duke and Penn State and is a top-30 prospect.
The 5-foot-10 Jones is one of the best players on Long Island. Jone averaged 17.1 points and 10.3 rebounds last year while burying 68 three-pointers.
While playing at North Babylon - the same school that produced UConn star Bria Hartley - during her high school season, Jones played for the Philadelphia Belles AAU travel team. And that's the team that produced UConn All-American Breanna Stewart.
Jones has the pedigree and she's also a New Yorker.
