Louisville football: Recruiting notebook

The University of Louisville football staff is out recruiting all this week. Here are a few recruiting notebook items from Cardinal Authority.

CARDS OFFER Iowa State COMMIT

Louisville has extended an offer to Huntersville, N.C., SouthLake Christian Academy defensive end Seth Nerness, who is a native of Iowa.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Nerness is considered a defensive end in college, but has played a lot of positions in high school. He committed to Iowa State back in the summer, picking the Cyclones then over offers from Kansas State and Western Illinois. He's also had interest from Cincinnati and Iowa among others.

Nerness is originally from Murray, Iowa, and played 8-man football for three seasons until he transferred to the school in North Carolina.

Nerness was a two-way player throughout his career at Murray, racking up 71 tackles and eight sacks on defense as a junior and rushing for 856 yards and 14 scores on offense. Nerness returned two kickoffs for touchdowns.

CARDS OFFER Nebraska COMMIT

Lakeland, Fla., Lake Gibson defensive end Reuben Jones, who is still committed to Nebraska at this point, has landed an offer from U of L.

The 6-foot-3 and 223-pound, three-star prospect also had offers from Duke, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, West Virginia, Marshall and Iowa State among others.

TAMPA STAR GETS IN-HOME FROM CARDS

Tampa, Fla., Plant defensive back Derrick Baity had an in-home visit on Tuesday night with Louisville safety coach Greg Brown.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Baity is a rangy cornerback with offers from U of L, Indiana, Minnesota, South Florida and Central Florida.

Baity made a visit to Virginia in early October.

Washington, D.C., Gonzaga cornerback Marcus Lewis, a four-star prospect ranked No. 175 in the Scout.com rankings, landed a U of L offer.

The 6-foot-2, 187-pound Lewis has visited Clemson and is expected to make visits to Miami and Georgia, while U of L and Michigan have also been showing a lot of interest.

Lewis has 20-plus offers.
