A return trip to Orlando, Fla., for a bowl game could be in the cards for the University of Louisville football program.
It appears the Russell Athletic Bowl is a likely option for the Cardinals after a 9-3 season and wins over Notre Dame and Kentucky to finish off the season.
The Citrus Bowl - which is also in Orlando - and several other bowls - including the Taxslayer in Jacksonville, Fla., and Music City in Nashville, Tenn. - are all still in the mix. A bowl destination will be announced by the ACC around 5:30 p.m.
A path to the Russell Athletic was opened for the Cardinals by Alabama's win over Missouri. The Missouri loss means that Michigan State is almost assured to be the highest-ranked non champion from the SEC or Big Ten, putting them in the Orange Bowl against Georgia Tech.
With Michigan State in the Orange Bowl, the Big Ten's spot in the Citrus Bowl will go to the ACC. The bowl would select either Clemson, Louisville or Duke with it very likely the Citrus Bowl would pick Clemson.
The Russell Athletic Bowl would then get to pick either U of L or Duke.
Played in the newly renovated Citrus Bowl stadium, the Russell Athletic Bowl will be played on Dec. 29 at 5:30 p.m.
The opponent would likely be Oklahoma or Kansas State.
Cardinal Authority will keep you posted on any movement throughout the day on Sunday and will have an interview with Bobby Petrino on Sunday night if the Cards are picked to play in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
