Rick Pitino checks out Maverick Rowan - again

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino is making Maverick Rowan a priority in the Class of 2016. Pitino and assistant Mike Balado were back in Florida on Saturday night watching the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons star.

It wasn't long after his de-commitment from Pittsburgh that University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino offered Maverick Rowan a scholarship.

Now, the 6-foot-6 Rowan has become a top priority in the Class of 2016 for Pitino.

Pitino and assistant coach Mike Balado were in Florida again on Saturday, watching Rowan for the second time in two weeks play for his Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Cardinal Gibbons High School team. Pitino has been to see him four times since he backed off the pledge to Pittsburgh in late September.

Rowan finished with 32 points in the game at the Kreul Classic in Coral Springs, Fla.

Rowan is four-star prospect and ranks No. 44 in the Class of 2016 by Scout.com. He's an excellent shooter and proved himself to be one of the better players on the adidas Gauntlet circuit in the '16 class last summer.

Rowan had been committed to Pittsburgh for more than a year prior to last week. In August, Rowan and his family moved from Midland, Pa., to Fort Lauderdale. He helped Lincoln Park Charter to a Class A state championship last season.

His father, Ron Rowan, played at St. John's in the mid-1980s and said he knew Pitino from his days of coaching at Providence.
