In a matchup of top 25 teams, the University of Louisville women's basketball team had more depth and a senior who led the way to victory.
Sara Hammond scored 10 of her 18 points in the second half and pulled down eight rebounds as the No. 10 Cardinals took out host California 70-57 on Sunday night.
Senior Shawnta Dyer matched her season best with 12 points, while Jude Schimmel added 11 points, and Mariya Moore had 10. The Cardinals are now 11-1 on the season and won't play again until Dec. 29 at home against Evansville.
"We don't have that star player who can score 20 every night," Louisville coach Jeff Walz said. "We do have about six players who are capable of scoring 20 on a given night. I'm not sure anyone expected us to be 11-1 going into the Christmas break."
Louisville beat the Golden Bears 64-57 in the Final Four two years ago in New Orleans before losing to Connecticut in the title game.
