Louisville staff to evaluate Florida guard

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and his staff are searching for a guard to add to the Class of 2015 and later this week the Cardinals will evaluate a high-scoring guard from Sarasota, Fla. Cardinal Mooney senior guard Ryan McMahon is scoring over 30 points a game and will get a look from U of L.

Sarasota, Fla., senior guard Ryan McMahon, the subject of ESPN commentator Dick Vitale's tweets about his solid play in recent weeks, is putting up massive numbers at Cardinal Mooney High School.

The 6-foot-1 McMahon is averaging more than 30 points a game for the Cougars, who are 21-2 on the season. He had 29 points and five steals in a game on Monday night after going for 28 and 27 in two games last week.

"Ryan McMahon is terrific," Vitale tweeted two weeks ago.

University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino and his staff will be the judge of that this weekend. The Cardinals are in the early stages of the recruitment process with McMahon but will be at his game on Friday night to evaluate the senior.

Sarasota Herald-Tribune reporter John Lembo tweeted earlier today that McMahon is expected to be at U of L's game on Saturday against North Carolina.

Again, it's the early stages of the recruitment process with the Cardinals.

U of L has three players already signed in the Class of 2015 and the Cardinals are expected to add a couple of others before the summer. Pitino said recently he expected those two players to be fifth-year transfers, but his staff continues to scour the country for potential top high school players left unsigned.

McMahon is the next to get a look.
