Louisville offers pair of Alabama stars

The University of Louisville football staff offered a pair of top prospects from the state of Alabama on Wednesday afternoon. Cardinal Authority has the latest on the two prospects:

University of Louisville football coach Bobby Petrino made the state of Alabama a recruiting priority during his first stint with the Cardinals.

And he's continued early in the second time around.

Petrino and his staff signed five players from Alabama in the most recent recruiting class and are after more in the future. On Wednesday, the Cardinals offered a scholarship to a top prospect in the Class of 2016 and '17 from Alabama.

The prospect in the '16 class is Florence, Ala., defensive end Erroll Thompson, who is the former teammate of '15 U of L signee Dee Smith.

The 6-foot-2, 245-pound Thompson now has seven offers, including Missouri, Kentucky, Charlotte, Memphis and Tennessee.

The prospect in '17 the Cardinals offered was Madison, Ala., Bob Jones offensive lineman Kendall Randolph. The 6-5, 270-pound Randolph also has an offer from New Mexico State and interest from Clemson, Tennessee and Wake Forest.

U of L assistant coach L.D. Scott is a native of Auburn, Ala., and played at U of L during the first stint with Petrino as the head coach.
