Dawkins, now a 6-foot-2, 190-pound three-star wide receiver from Columbus, Ohio, Franklin Heights High School, is the son of Anthony Dawkins, who played for the Cardinals.
"My dad played there and I just grew up a Louisville fan," the younger Dawkins said. "I always watched them and really like the program. I liked when coach (Bobby) Petrino came back. It's a fun offense to watch."
So, it was even "more exciting" for Dawkins when he landed a U of L offer earlier this month. He also has offers from Boston College, Miami of Ohio, Toledo and Bowling Green with interest from Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Purdue.
Dawkins said the Cardinals are "on top" of the list right now, noting he'll make a visit to U of L this weekend for Saturday's Junior Day.
"I've been talking to coach (Chris) Klenakis a lot," Dawkins said. "I'm excited to go on the visit since they offered me.
"I watched every game I could this year and really liked how they run the offense."
Dawkins, who also plays basketball, played quarterback for much of his junior season at Franklin Heights. He finished with 35 catches and had a total of 21 touchdowns.
